Sunday series opens with a winning duo
By Anthony Sclafani
The Howard County-based Kassian-Howard Duo will open the new year's Sundays at Three concert series this Sunday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. in Columbia’s historic Christ Episcopal Church.
The new year might have just started, but local arts organizations already have concerts and more in the works.
The chamber-music series Sundays at Three, will start off 2010 by presenting a local group, the Kassian-Howard Duo, which will play Sunday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. The Howard County-based group is made up of the husband-and-wife team of pianist Anna Soukiassian and violinist Jeffrey Howard.
The pair might be local, but their credentials span the globe. Soukiassian has performed recitals in Armenia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Moldava and Canada. She has also taught at the Yerevan (Armenia) State Conservatory, the Phillips Academy in Massachusetts and Michigan's Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Soukiassian is also the founder and co-coordinator of the Komitas Music School in Boston. These days, she teaches at the Peabody Conservatory's Preparatory Division and the McDonough School.
Jeffrey Howard has performed in Canada, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Italy. He has also played as a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston-based Metamorphosen Chamber Ensemble.
